Summary
Remittances are both a means of supporting family well-being and social inclusion and a development objective. While transnational families often carry responsibilities that are similar to those of families living in the same country, they face additional financial burdens simply because family members live in different countries. Affordable, safe and accessible remittance services therefore are an important part of the policy infrastructure. Reducing the barriers associated with remittances is an important step towards enabling families to support one another, strengthening everyday family life across borders, and achieving the objectives set out in SDG Target 10.c.
